The artist´s hall of paintings
Nine years after the construction of his residential building in Seebüll, Emil Nolde had added another spacious room on top of his ground-floor studio: the so-called hall of paintings. Nolde fulfilled “one of his life’s wishes” with this very hall of paintings. Here, the painter could surround himself with his works and hang them close together in double rows to heighten their individual impact. The hall of paintings also enabled Nolde to show his paintings to his close friends and guests in a gallery-like setting.
The Nolde Foundation Seebüll feels indebted to Nolde’s original way of presentation and continues to exhibit the paintings in double rows. Each year, a new selection of paintings is chosen for the hall of paintings.
