In August: Purple Loosestrife
The purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is an arresting sight when it flowers in the Nolde Garden. This perennial can grow up to two metres tall, blooms for a period of several weeks, and attracts many insects and butterflies with the unusual colour of its blossoms. These robust, warmth-loving plants prefer wet-dry soils above all; they are therefore often found on the banks of lakes, rivers and streams, but also in the drainage canals of North Frisia.
